Connect Hover Domain with Wix
Table of Contents
Connecting a Hover domain with Wix is a 2-part integration process.
The first part requires you to Add your custom domain through Wix website while the second part is for you to Configure the DNS through Hover or your DNS provider.
The second part varies depending who’s hosting the DNS of your domain. But to make a long story short, you either need to add Wix DNS resource records like A record and CNAME(Pointing method) or redirect your domain to Wix name servers(DNS method).
If you’re a beginner, I recommend to use DNS method. This way, the Wix support team can help you with DNS and website concerns at the same time.
Redirecting your domain to Wix nameservers will allow them to host the DNS and easily configure it on your behalf.
But if you’re already comfortable or have a lot of experience managing the DNS on your own, then you may use the Pointing method instead.
Part 1: Add Your Custom Domain through Wix
- Go to the Domains page in your Wix account.
- Click Connect a domain you already own. Note: If you already have a domain in your account, click Add an Existing Domain, then select Connect a domain you already own.
- Select the site you want to connect your domain to and click Next.
- Enter the domain name.
- Click DNS next to Connection Method at the bottom of the page.
- Select DNS or Pointing.
- Click Confirm.
- Click Next.
Wix will display the necessary CNAME and A record or Name servers where you can point your domain name to.

This can be done either directly through Hover or through a DNS provider where you domain points to.

To set your name servers, please follow these steps:

3. Enter your updated nameserver information in the pop-up window. If needed, you can also add extra nameservers.
4. Click Save nameservers to push through the changes. It can take 24-48 hours for the change to complete.
Adjusting nameservers for multiple domains
Alternatively, you can edit your nameservers directly from the Nameservers page on the navigation bar. This menu is available if you have multiple domains.
You can edit the nameservers for multiple domains at once by selecting the Edit button beside the domains. You will have two choices within this menu:
- Edit nameservers: A menu where you can adjust the domain’s nameservers.
- Reset nameservers: This resets the nameservers to our default setting.
You can also edit the nameservers for multiple domains at once using the Bulk Edit function.
- Select the domains by toggling each domain and then click the dropdown Bulk edit: select.
- Click on Edit nameservers and make the changes in the pop-up window. You can also perform a bulk edit on the nameservers from the Your Domains menu.
Verify Your Domain Connection
Once you’ve updated your domain’s DNS records, return to the Domains page in your Wix account and click Verify Connection. Due to DNS propagation delay, you may not be able to verify the domain connection immediately.
DNS Propagation
All DNS changes may take 24 – 48 hours to fully take effect across the entire internet. This delay is also known as DNS propagation.
If the DNS has been properly configured and the domain has been added successfully through Wix, it’s just a matter of time before you see the domain integrated with your Wix website.
Check this out if you have another domain from a third party domain registrar you wish to connect with Wix from a different 3rd-party domain registrar.
