Connect Network Solutions Domain To Shopify

If your domain name was registered through a 3rd-party domain registrar, you need to accomplish two things to successfully link your domain to your Shopify store.

Based on Shopify’s help center, here are the the DNS records you need to add/modify:

  • A record should point to Shopify’s IP address, which is
  • www CNAME record should point to shops.myshopify.com


How or where can you add these DNS resource records?

DNS records can be added or modified through the domain’s DNS provider, the process varies depending who’s hosting it.


1.) Add Shopify’s Resource Records

If you’re using Network Solutions to manage the DNS of your domain, follow the steps below to redirect your domain to Shopify.

If not, check who the DNS provider of your domain and contact their support team to request adding these DNS resource records:

Network Solutions: Creating A and CNAME

  1. Log in to the Account Manager, then select My Domain Names.
  2. Select the domain name you want to change or click Manage next to the domain.
  3. In the green box, select Change Where Domain Points.
  4. Select Advanced DNS, then click Continue.
  5. Select the type of record you want to change.


Edit or add A Record

  1. In the IP Address (A Records) section, click the Edit A Records button.
    • To remove and replace existing Numeric IP addresses, select the box next to each A Record you need to delete, then click Continue. Click Save Changes on the Confirm DNS Changes page.
    • To add the new Host and Numeric IP addresses or update the existing Numeric IP addresses, enter the appropriate information in the text boxes.
    • If needed, modify the TTL settings, and then click the Continue button. The TTL default is 7200.
  2. A confirmation page appears that verifies your records were updated. Review the information carefully, and then click the Save Changes button.
  3. You have changed the IP Address for the A Records.


Edit or add CNAME Record

  1. In the Host Aliases (CNAME Records) section, click the Edit CNAME Records button.
  2. Type the new Aliases or update the existing Aliases in the Alias text boxes. If needed, modify the TTL settings. The TTL default is 7200.
  3. Select one of the two:
    • Refers to Host Name to alias another record assigned to this domain. Select the hostname from the drop-down box under the Host Name column.
    • Other Host to alias another domain. The information entered in this field must be a domain name. It cannot be an IP address or a specific directory.
  4. Click the Continue button.
  5. A confirmation page appears that verifies your records were updated. Review the information carefully, and then click the Save Changes button.


2.) Add Custom Domain in Shopify

Once you’re done adding the DNS records, you may now add your domain name to your Shopify account.

  1. Go to Shopify and Login to your account.
  2. Select Online Store in the dashboard.
  3. Click Domains.
  4. Click on Connect existing domain.
  5. Enter your custom domain name (example.com).
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Verify Connection.


3.) DNS Propagation Delay

If Shopify is unable to verify the DNS records yet, give it several more minutes before attempting to verify the connection again.

Any DNS changes may take from few minutes up to 48 hours to fully take effect across the entire internet.

Given that the DNS is properly configured, you will definitely see your custom domain name integrated with your Shopify website soon.
