What is a Domain Reseller?

Domain reseller is a third-party company who offers domain registration service through a domain registrar. Here are few examples of domain resellers:

  • BigCartel
  • Bluehost
  • G Suite
  • Shopify
  • Square
  • Squarespace
  • Vistaprint
  • Weebly
  • Wix
  • WordPress

In many cases, when you register a domain name through a Domain reseller, most domain related concerns such as payment for renewal, modifying DNS and account related concern will be handled by the reseller itself and not the actual Registrar.

In addition, there are domain resellers like Wix, Weebly and Shopify which will allow you to manage everything in one place including the website, if you register the domain name directly through them.

This is a good thing, since you only need to contact one support team if you need help with something.

However, this is not always the case when registering a domain through domain resellers.

Some do not have access to DNS settings, so they may refer you directly to the actual Registrar or 3rd-party DNS provider for assistance.

One example of this is Vistaprint.

Vistaprint is using Cloudflare to provide DNS hosting service to their customers, so instead of configuring the DNS through Vistaprint’s website, you need to sign in to Cloudflare instead.

Bottom line is, if you need help with domain related concern, contact the Domain reseller first.

If you’re Domain reseller cannot help, you can always contact the Registrar for assistance.

Just in case you do not know who the registrar of your domain name is, you can do a Whois lookup online and it will give you the information you need.
